| WHAT IS MACROBIOTIC/WHOLE FOODS
COOKING? |
|
Come
discover the world of cooking and eating food in an entirely new
way for entirely new reasons. Many of us eat food not for
the health of the body/mind but simply for the taste. We eat sugary
foods to feel happy or loved, fatty creamy foods to feel safe, nourished
and protected, etc. This may provide a temporary good feeling, but
at what price to health, weight, energy and the immune system?
In the last 20 years, more scientific research
and an ever increasing amount of anecdotal evidence has brought
the benefits of a macrobiotic diet into the public attention. In
fact, the macrobiotic way of eating is thought to protect one from
many degenerative diseases.
A wide range of symptoms can be positively affected
by applying these dietary principles, including: |
- allergies
- candida yeast infections
- diabetes.
- digestive disorders
- heart disease
- premenstrual syndrome
|
- hyperactivity in children

The
basic principles of macrobiotic cooking consist of a wholesome,
natural diet emphasizing whole grains, fresh local produce including
vegetables and fruits, beans, sea vegetables, soy products such
as tofu and tempeh, smaller amounts (if desired) of animal proteins
i.e. fish, and natural sweeteners. In addition, the balance of yin/yang
in the qualities of food and in cooking styles is considered.
Learning how to cook and balance simple whole
foods that are locally grown and in season is a pre-requisite for
anyone wanting to make a change to a health supportive way of eating.
Also, learning how different foods affect different
moods and can assist the return to a balanced emotional state through
our lifestyle and dietary choices.
Macrobiotics is more than just another dietary
regime as it is based on traditional principles of the Tao or the
nature of life: the order of the universe. To have an interest and
an understanding of harmony, balance and how all things change helps
make for a smoother transition towards a macrobiotic way of diet
and lifestyle. The by-product of such a transition can provide more
vitality, more joy for life, and the energy available to achieve
one's personal goals and dreams. |
